CAMP ("we", "us") is a job-application tracker for students and college placement cells, on the web at careerapp.in and as an Android app. This page explains what data we collect, why, and how it's handled — including the Google access (Gmail and Calendar) CAMP can ask for.

What we collect

  • Account details — name, email address and phone number (all required to register), plus, for students registered through an institution, course and experience level. If you sign up with a password, we store a salted hash of it, never the password itself.
  • Google account info — if you use "Sign in with Google", we receive your name, email address, and Google account ID (sub) from Google. We only use this to identify your account; we do not receive your password.
  • Job application data — company, job title, job board, URL, status, deadlines, notes and reminder times for the applications you add or that CAMP finds for you.
  • Resumes and job descriptions — the resume you upload, job description text and PDFs, the resumes you tailor or build with CAMP, and the work stories you write for the STAR resume builder.
  • Talent profile — the headline, current company, experience, city and skills you add to your profile, and the cover notes you send when applying on the CAMP Jobs Board.
  • Watchlist and searches — the companies you watch, and the job searches you run.
  • Profile photo — only if you choose to upload one.
  • Emails about your applications — if you connect Gmail or set up email forwarding (see below).
  • Coins and payment records — your coin balance and history (videos watched, passes bought). If you or your institution pay for coins or a subscription on the website, Razorpay (our payment processor) handles your card/UPI details directly; we store only the resulting order ID, payment ID, amount, and status, never your full payment details. Coins can't be bought in the Android app.
  • Usage analytics — basic, aggregated usage data via Google Analytics (pages visited, general location, device type, and a cookie that identifies the browser), used to understand how the product is used. This is not tied to your CAMP account.

Gmail access ("Connect Gmail")

If you choose to connect one or more Gmail accounts, CAMP requests read-only access to each inbox (the gmail.readonly scope). This access is used for exactly one purpose: periodically searching your inbox for application-confirmation, interview, and offer emails so we can update the status of the matching application in your tracker automatically.

  • We never send, delete, or modify anything in your inbox.
  • Gmail access tokens are encrypted at rest and are only ever used server-side to run these searches.
  • You can disconnect Gmail access at any time from your Settings page, which deletes the stored token immediately. You can also revoke access directly from your Google Account permissions page.
  • CAMP's use of Gmail data adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Email forwarding

For inboxes that aren't Gmail, your Settings page gives you a personal CAMP forwarding address. Emails you forward to it are received by SendGrid (our inbound email provider) and read by CAMP for the same single purpose as Gmail access: updating your applications' status. You choose which emails to forward, and can stop at any time by removing the forwarding rule in your mail client.

Google Calendar reminders

If you connect Google Calendar, CAMP requests the calendar.events scope so it can add the reminders you set with "Remind Me" on the tracker. CAMP only creates, changes and removes the reminder events it made itself. You can disconnect Calendar from your Settings page or your Google Account permissions page.

Watch & Earn videos

The Coins page lets you earn coins by watching short sponsored videos. They play through YouTube's embedded player, so YouTube (Google) may collect usage data and set cookies under Google's Privacy Policy. We record only which videos you finished, to credit your coins.

The Android app

The CAMP Android app opens CAMP inside Google Chrome on your phone, so it collects the same data as the website described here and nothing else: no contacts, location, photos or other data from your phone, except files you choose to upload. It stores one cookie marking that you're using the app.

How we use your data

  • To operate your account and the job tracker, job search, watchlist, Jobs Board and resume features.
  • To let your institution's placement cell view the applications and progress of students registered under it, if you registered through an institution.
  • To share your talent profile and resume with an employer when you apply to their job on the CAMP Jobs Board, or with employers on CAMP generally if you turn on "Visible to employers".
  • To detect application status changes from your inbox, if you've connected Gmail or set up forwarding.
  • To add reminders to your Google Calendar, if you've connected it.
  • To process payments for coins and subscriptions on the website, via Razorpay.
  • To send you account-related emails (verification codes, approvals, status changes) — we do not send marketing email.

Third parties we share data with

We don't sell your data. Data is shared only with the services CAMP is built on, strictly to provide the product, and with the employers and institutions described above:

  • Google — for "Sign in with Google", Gmail read-only access, Google Calendar reminders, YouTube videos, and Google Analytics.
  • Google Gemini API — resume and job description text, when you use Deep Check, Tailor Resume or the STAR resume builder. (The standard ATS Fit score, and the career profile CAMP reads from your resume to suggest and rank jobs, are worked out by CAMP itself without AI.)
  • SendGrid — receives the emails you forward to your CAMP address.
  • Razorpay — for payment processing.
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) — our hosting and file-storage provider; your data is stored on AWS infrastructure in India (ap-south-1).
  • Job search results are fetched live from LinkedIn, Indeed, Naukri, Himalayas, and (when enabled) Adzuna and Jooble, and watchlist openings from each company's careers page — this sends your search terms to those sites but not your CAMP account details. Openings from company career pages and Remote OK are collected by CAMP in advance and searched on our own servers.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. You can delete your account and everything in it at any time from Profile → Delete Account, on the website or in the Android app. It's removed immediately, apart from our automated database backup, which is overwritten within a day. See Delete your account for exactly what's removed. If you can't log in, email shivenderm26@ispp.org.in and we'll delete it within 7 days.

Security

Passwords are hashed, Gmail tokens are encrypted at rest, and all traffic to CAMP is encrypted over HTTPS.

Children's privacy

CAMP is intended for college students and job seekers, generally 18 years or older. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13.
